The idea is simple. Let’s teach each other about each other. About our health and wellbeing. And about our illnesses. Furthermore, let's dispense this knowledge to our surroundings. Because an illness changes with perception, and this perception can make all the difference in the way we live.

Student run. For the student in each of us.

I was diagnosed bipolar type 2 in 2009, as well as PTSD, C-PTSD, panic disorder w/o agoraphobia, anxiety, and ADHD. I've also been fighting chronic migraines since 1999. At first the migraines were episodic with somewhat identifiable triggers but they have become much worse in the past 2 - 3 years. I now experience more migraine days a month than without. Even in between intolerable bouts of hellish migraine symptoms I always have some form of symptoms - the intensity and severity vary. It has been especially difficult to cope with both the mental illnesses and chronic migraines because they are never truly separate experiences - one often triggers the other.

I did 7 months of intensive outpatient DBT (dialectal behavior therapy) and it saved my life; I was in an incredibly dark time of my life and had just attempted suicide before starting the program. The goal of DBT is not to cure or erase your symptoms but to create a life worth living. I can't recommend DBT enough!! It has helped me cope with both the mental illnesses and chronic migraines.
